{"id":2735,"date":"2020-07-22T10:44:56","date_gmt":"2020-07-22T14:44:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/matroidunion.org\/?p=2735"},"modified":"2020-08-24T21:01:55","modified_gmt":"2020-08-25T01:01:55","slug":"online-talk-zach-walsh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/matroidunion.org\/?p=2735","title":{"rendered":"Online talk: Zach Walsh"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Mon, July 27,<\/strong> 3pm ET (8pm BST, 7am Tue NZST)<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/uwaterloo.ca\/scholar\/zwalsh\/home\"><strong>Zach Walsh<\/strong><\/a>, University of Waterloo<br \/><strong>Quadratically Dense Matroids<\/strong><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/oO7gnjr0t7Y\"><strong>Youtube<\/strong><\/a><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>Abstract:<br \/><\/strong>The extremal function of a class of matroids is the function whose value at an integer $n$ is the<span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> maximum number of elements of a simple matroid in the class of rank at most $n$. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">We present a result concerning\u00a0the role of group-labeled graphs in\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">minor-closed classes of matroids, and then use it to determine the extremal function,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">for all but finitely many $n$,\u00a0<\/span>for the class of complex-representable matroids which exclude a given rank-2 uniform matroid as a minor.
